Twins Happy With Off Season PDF Print E-mail

The Minnesota Twins enter the 2036 season amidst their longest World Series drought in seven years. It has been two years since the storied franchise has hoisted the trophy and, while they haven’t made any blockbuster moves, they are hoping the streak will not extend to three. Overall, the front office of the Twins considers their team’s off season to be a mild success.

“We didn’t drastically alter the core of our team like a lot of people were calling for after we missed the playoffs,” said the GM of the Twins, SankTheTank. “This was my 14th off season in the league and probably was also the busiest." After watching their rivals, the Chicago White Sox, make quick work of the Milwaukee Brewers and claim their first World Championship in franchise history, the Twins got right to work in preparation for the 2036 campaign.

In a matter of days, five trades were announced by Minnesota in an effort to reconstruct and bolster their bullpen. Following the departures of Masato Saikawa, Brian Stenecker, Alvin Train, and Terry Tyndall, a group that had pitched well all season long but eventually let the team down big time in September, the Twins acquired the rights to a few lesser known names. First, they shipped off veteran Lucas Chambers and his $3.9 million dollar salary to Philadelphia in exchange for the Phillies fourth round draft pick. They then immediately flipped that pick for right hander Josh Murphy, a hard throwing reliever in the Texas Rangers minor league system. In 102 appearances in AAA, Murphy compiled a 3.84 ERA and 83 strikeouts in 72.2 innings.
